Fast Track through Heathrow!

Okay so we arrived in Heathrow at 6.30 am Sunday morning. As you know I am travelling with my Wife, Su, her mother Pam and Adam's girlfriend Christine. One thing you learn very quickly is that you can measure the size of an airport by the distance you have to walk. So Su's mother being nearly 80 walks with a stick and in large airports this tires her out so we order a wheel chair. This means we have to wait for everyone else to get off the plane first. So the natural instinct on arriving at the the end of your flight is to jump up open the overhead locker and stand in line to make a mad dash for it.
So you sit there with everyone around you staring at you, they can't understand why you want to stay on the plane? Then when the others are gone you casually get up gather your stuff and escort Mum to the door of the plane for a waiting Wheelchair. Now the person wheeling the chair has security access and so we just follow and go right past those lining up to enter immigration to a special line. Through we go pick up our bags and through customs and within 45 minutes we were outside in the cold waiting for our shuttle bus from Terminal 4 to collect our Hertz rental car. I must admit I resisted smiling and waving to all our fellow passengers as we went through but I am sure they were jealous as we sailed on by especially those who tried to get off the plane first!
We had bit of a wait for our rental car, a Skodia Octavia Wagon. I used my Everyday rewarders card to scrape ice from the windscreen, knew it would come in handy one day, and by 8.30am  we were heading on our way on the M25 to get on the A1 up to Retford. It was about 1 degree outside and it was just getting light. Being a Sunday we made good headway and arrived in Retford around 11am. The sight that greeted us in Retford was a little surprising. As you know I have through previous blogs, told you they had about 15 to16 inches of snow....well there is still snow in the fields and the streets of Retford still have snow and ice on them so pulling up at the house and negotiating your way in on the slippery icy wet road and pavements proved challenging especially with baggage. Christine quickly snapped off a few Piccys but I note her resistance to touching it in fact she appears to be suffering from Jet Lag..hopefully she will be soon over it.
One of the things tht really hit me was about 8 to 8.30 am before it gets light and at 4 pm it starts to get dark makes our winter days look quite long really. After a shower and a bite to eat we decided to head to the local supermarket then on to Wath upon Dearne to visit Su's half sister. This is when the fun began as trying to actually get the car onto the road from an icy kerb proved interesting...with some superior driving...lol and a bit of a push we managed to get out. We return the hire car to Nottingham tomorrow so will up date you on shopping in this city...something one has to get used to travelling with 3 women..hopefully I will find a few camera stores. By the way Dave and Marilyn's Home is lovely and really central to everything... Met a few neighbours who are most helpful...I will up date you later.....
