Friday we drove to Abu Dhabi to see Shakira in concert at Yas Arena on Yas Island. Su was not interested in going nor was Costa so Katrina and I went with two of her girlfriends Faye and Marjan. After much debate we decided to drive to Yas Island rather than chance a Cab. Our feeling was we might get there but would we get home? I was interested to see the contrasts of a concert in OZ to one in a alchol free country. Well how wrong was I, at this concert Alcohol was served, it was standing only and the beer and wine flowed freely. I am told Abu Dhabi is more liberal than Dubai. We arrived part way through the support act and nearly an hour past before Shakira kicked off her part of the concert. She sung a few of her old favourites and the crowd erupted when she belted out, Whenever Wherever, and Hips dont Lie. Her Concert finished at 11.30 pm and after a good five minutes came back for an Encore of Waka Waka (this Time Africa) the 2010 FIFA world cup song. The song has received generally positive critical reception, and has become a worldwide smash hit and the biggest selling World Cup song of all time.Although I must admit dont think it was in OZ. Although may have made it to the Zumba fitness workshops. The Arena looks to be part of Ferrari World and in a weeks time Snoop Dog will play there and in two weeks The Wiggles!
